Website Ranking Test, is your site among the top search results with major search engines?

This ranking test tells you if your site is listed in the top search results of the major search engines. Unlike the Google Page Rank - which is more like an indication of ranking - this ranking test fetches actual search results and matches them against your website's domain and page titles.

Test your position among search engine results

Finally, a test to check your ranking in search engine indexes, based on search words!
MetaTest checks your ranking with the popular search engines, however we stick to top ranking results only: if you are not listed within the first 10-30 search results, your ranking is ineffective.

How does the ranking test work?

This test first loads your page and tries to scrape the most relevant words of the page.
Next, these words are ranked according to their frequency on the page.
Words that are also in the page title or in the page url, will rank higher.

The test then takes the top 3 words as potential search words for your page, and issues a search for these words with the major search engines.

The search engines presently covered by the ranking test are:
- Google
- Yahoo
- Microsoft search or live search
- Ask
- Altavista
- Netscape AOL
- Alltheweb
- Ilse (only for dutch language sites)

The search engine results are then matched to your page title and domain.
A positive result for both tests indicates your page is indeed amongst the top search results.

You can easily repeat the test with other words from your page by just selecting them from the search form. The test will check your position in the search results for all combinations you select.

We do NOT provide an automated check for all possible combinations, as this would be considered abuse by the search engines we query. Also, it is ridiculous as you can not optimize your page for more than a handful of words. It is more important to think what your visitors would be searching for and including those words on your page, than it is to know whether you have top ranking for the words that in fat are on your page.

If you must, there is software out there that will find optimal keyword combinations, but we think you are better of using your head and writing good content.

Make your website rank higher among search engine results

The ranking test is only one part of a suite of tests. If you want to improve your ranking, check out either the full MetaTest or the comprehensive Quick Scan. Both tests issue tips to improve your findability.
